GOLDEN SUNS BEGIN GAC CHAMPIONSHIPS AT NOON

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – For the fifth time in the past six seasons, Arkansas Tech women's basketball enters the Great American Conference Championships as a two seed or better, as the Golden Suns finished second in the GAC regular-season standings in 2016-17. Last season's tournament champions will open the conference tournament against seventh-seeded Ouachita in Bartlesville, Okla. today at noon.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN SUNS
Arkansas Tech (20-6, 16-6 GAC) finished the regular season with two consecutive losses after winning sixth of seven games. The Suns have defeated Ouachita twice this season by an average of 19 points. Arkansas Tech set the women's basketball program record with 16 three-pointers in Tech's 89-66 win over the Lady Tigers on January 12.
 
The Golden Suns are led by Anissa Pounds, one of just two unanimous All-GAC First Team selections this season. Pounds paces the Suns with 13.8 points and 3.7 assists per game. She ranks second in the conference in three-point shooting percentage, trailing only her teammate Calli White. Kelsey McClure and Cheyenne North average 12.2 points and 11.2 points per game, respectively, and both received all-conference honorable mentions.
 
SCOUTING THE LADY TIGERS
Ouachita (12-16, 9-13 GAC) won three of its last five regular season games to break a four-way tie for seventh place in the GAC. The Lady Tigers boast wins over three-seeded Southwestern Oklahoma and fifth-seeded East Central, while Ouachita also took top-seeded Harding to triple-overtime on Jan. 14.
 
Madison Brittain leads the Lady Tigers with 11.1 points per game. Kori Bullard, an All-GAC honorable mention selection, averages 9.1 points while leading Ouachita in rebounds, blocks and three-point percentage.
