TECH SPLITS WITH REDDIES AFTER LONGEST GAME IN PROGRAM HISTORY

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After 26 innings combined over two games, Arkansas Tech split the opening day of a four-game series with Henderson State on Sunday. The Golden Suns dropped game one, 3-2, in a school-record 19 innings before defeating the Reddies, 5-2, in the seven-inning second game.

NOTABLES
  • Game one's loss ended after a walk off home run by HSU's Dixon in the bottom of the 19th inning. The game is the longest in Arkansas Tech and Great American Conference history, and is tied for the third longest game in Division II softball history.
  • Gum pitched all 18.1 innings for the Golden Suns, breaking her own Arkansas Tech record of 11 innings pitched in 2016. She also set the Tech and GAC record with 23 strikeouts, tied for fifth most in a game in Division II history. She also hit her fifth home run of the season to put the Golden Suns ahead, 2-1, in the top of the 11th inning.
  • Henderson's Sorensen set the GAC record with 19 innings pitched, and Gum and Sorensen combined for 43 strikeouts, the second most combined strikeouts by starters in Division II history.
  • Goodnight paced the offense with seven hits on the day for the Golden Suns, including a 4-4 effort in game two. She batted in four runs in Tech's 5-2 win over the Reddies, while LaChance batted in the other run.
  • Vaughan pitched her second complete game of the season in game two, allowing just two runs on three hits. She also struck out four batters to earn her team-leading sixth win of the season.
