RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – After going 3-0 this weekend at the Missouri Western Winter Invitational, the Arkansas Tech women's tennis team (5-0) prepares to open the home portion of its spring schedule against John Brown (1-2) at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex on Thursday.
The Golden Suns captured wins over two regionally-ranked teams on the weekend by defeating Newman, the No. 8 team in the South Central Region 5-4, and Maryville, the seventh-ranked team in the Midwest Region 5-2.
All three of the Suns doubles pairs put together strong performances to go 2-1 on the weekend. The doubles pairing of Macarena Acosta and
Tamara Bell (10-1) picked up wins against Newman and Missouri Western, while the No. 2 doubles pair
Annabel Rowlands and
Teresa Sanchez (9-3) as well as No. 3 singles pair
Haeleigh Long and
Vandella Suico (6-1) were victorious against Missouri Western and Maryville.
Senior
Tamara Bell (8-4) and freshmen
Kami Ward (9-4) dominated singles play, going 3-0 on the weekend.
The Golden Suns will open doubles play at 1 p.m. with singles play following the completion of doubles.
