WONDER BOYS SWEEP NO. 16 BOLL WEEVILS FOR 10TH STRAIGHT WIN

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys defeated the No. 16 Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils for the second time this season on Thursday, escaping Tucker Coliseum with a 92-86 win on senior night. The victory gives the Wonder Boys 10 consecutive wins, their longest streak since 2011.

  • Arkansas Tech (19-4, 15-4 GAC) has completed its home season and will be on the road for its final three regular-season games. The Wonder Boys return to the court on Saturday in Arkadelphia, as Tech takes on Henderson State at 3 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Arkansas-Monticello (19-4, 15-4 GAC) scored the first five points of the game, and the Weevils held a lead for the first four minutes of the first half. Five consecutive points from Justin Graham, however, gave Tech its first lead at 11-10.
  • The first half featured three ties and 10 lead changes, with the final lead change coming on a three-pointer by Grant Prusator to spark a 24-5 run to end the period. Prusator was 4-4 from three-point range in the final seven minutes of the first half, and Graham netted a last-second triple to send Tech into halftime with a 47-33 lead.
  • Tech shot 58.1 percent from the floor in the half, including eight three-pointers. UAM was 48.3 percent on field goals, but the Weevils netted just 1-7 from behind the arc. Graham led all scorers with 14 points in the period, while Prusator came off the bench to tally 12 first-half points.
  • UAM used an 8-0 run early in the second half to cut its deficit to three points, but the Wonder Boys responded quickly with an 11-3 run to establish another double-digit lead. Graham scored eight points during the run, including two three-pointers.
  • The Weevils then answered with a 10-2 run to once again cut Tech's lead to one possession, but Trevin Woods scored five straight points to ignite an 11-0 run that put the Wonder Boys ahead, 79-66 with under four minutes to play.
  • Arkansas-Monticello pulled within single digits in the final minute of the contest, but Freddy Lee netted 8-8 from the free-throw line in the final 1:35 to help the Wonder Boys secure the win.
 
NOTABLES
  • With the win, Tech moves into a three-way for first place in the Great American Conference standings with UAM and East Central.
  • The Wonder Boys shot 54.2 percent from the floor, their third highest field-goal percentage in a conference game this season. Tech also netted 13 three-pointers and 21 free-throws.
  • Led by Prusator's 15 points, Arkansas Tech's bench outscored UAM's bench, 27-8. Graham led all scorers with a career-high 29 points and 12 rebounds. Graham was 8-11 from the floor and perfect on four shots from behind the arc. He also netted 9-10 free-throws.
  • Lee followed with 16 points and 11 assists, while Bennie Lufile added 12 points on 5-5 shooting from the field.
