WONDER BOYS ESCAPE WITH A WIN AT OUACHITA BAPTIST

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Arkansas Tech (17-4, 13-4 Great American Conference) was challenged late by Ouachita Baptist (11-10, 9-8), but the Wonder Boys escaped with an 89-85 victory at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia on Saturday.

The Wonder Boys will return to Tucker Coliseum on Monday, February 13 to take on Harding with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trailing 13-9 early in the first half, Alex Brown gave the Wonder Boys their first lead on a three-pointer with 12:20 to play.
  • Leading by two with 7:58 left in the first half, Tech went on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead to double-figures at 36-26. Branden Williams scored five of the eight points during that stretch.
  • The Wonder Boys stretched the lead to as much as 13 at 46-33, but the Tigers ended the half on a 10-4 run to make it a 50-43 score at halftime.
  • Tech stretched the lead back to 13 at 67-54 on a Trevin Woods three-pointer with 12:17 remaining in the first half.
  • The Tigers made a run late in the half to cut the Wonder Boys lead to 77-73, but Justin Graham knocked down a huge three-pointer to stretch the lead back to seven with 3:24 to go.
  • With 14 seconds to go following an OBU three to make it a two-point Wonder Boys lead, Freddy Lee knocked down a pair of clutch free throws to push Tech to the 89-85 victory.
 
NOTABLES
  • Brown led the Wonder Boys with his fifth 20+ point game of the season, scoring 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, knocking down 6-of-10 from behind the arc, and gathered six rebounds.
  • Three other Wonder Boys scored in double-figures as Graham (16 points, seven rebounds, five assists), Lee (13 points, three assists), and Branden Williams (10 points, nine rebounds) all broke into double-digits.
  • Lee made 5-of-6 free throw attempts in the final minute and finished the game 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.
  • The Wonder Boys held Ouachita Baptist to 38-percent shooting from the floor, and 35-percent from behind the arc.
  • Tech made 14-of-33 (42-percent) of their three-point attempts.
