FIVE GOLDEN SUNS REACH DOUBLE FIGURES IN WIN OVER LINCOLN

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Behind five double-digit scorers, a season-high 21 assists and a season-high in scoring, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (7-1) defeated the Lincoln Blue Tigers (3-9), 93-55, on Saturday. Lyrik Williams led the Suns with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jacie Higgins scored the first four points of the game, in her first career start for Arkansas Tech. The Golden Suns opened the contest with a 12-2 run.
  • Arkansas Tech outscored the Blue Tigers 35-9 in the second quarter, the most points scored by the Suns in any period this season. An 8-0 run to open the quarter gave Tech a 28-12 lead.
  • Cheyenne North converted on a layup with 5:51 left in the first half to give Arkansas Tech its first 20-point lead, and Ashley Breathitt gave the Suns its first 30-point lead with a fast-break layup with 1:17 remaining. 
  • The Golden Suns claimed their largest lead of the half in the final seconds of play, as Taylor Ely netted a last-second triple to put Tech ahead 55-21 at the break.
  • Tech's largest lead of the game at 45 points came on three separate occasions in the third quarter, the first after a three-pointer by Kylie Ladd that capped an 11-0 run to start the second half. 
  • Lincoln and Arkansas Tech both scored 19 points in the final period of play, but the Suns never allowed the Blue Tigers to pull within 30 points. 

NOTABLES

  • Tech improves to 7-1 with the victory, securing its third straight win.
  • The Suns forced Lincoln to commit 31 turnovers that resulted in 46 points, the second-most points of turnovers this season. 
  • Arkansas Tech outscored Lincoln 42-20 in the paint, and Tech's bench outscored the bench of the Blue Tigers, 44-26. 
  • Williams' third double-double of the season came in just 23 minutes. Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse, Ely, Higgins and Ladd each followed with 13 points. Higgins added six boards, four steals and three assists. Ladd tallied five assists and three steals.
  • Breathitt came off the bench and set career-highs with nine points and six steals. 
  • All 10 players in uniform for the Golden Suns scored in the victory.

  • The Golden Suns return to Great American Conference play on Thursday, Jan. 4, as Tech travels to Shawnee, Okla. to take on Oklahoma Baptist. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
