ARKANSAS TECH VOLLEYBALL WINS 20TH STRAIGHT

DURANT, Okla. - The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns reached 20 consecutive wins for the first time in 17 seasons, as Tech defeated Southeastern Oklahoma, 3-1, on Saturday.

  • No. 18 Arkansas Tech returns home for its next contest, as the Golden Suns host Central Baptist and Lyon on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Tech takes on Central Baptist at 2 p.m., before battling Lyon at 6 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Arkansas Tech (20-0, 7-0 GAC) used an 8-2 run midway through the first set to take a 23-15, lead. Southeastern Oklahoma (5-15, 1-6 GAC) cut the deficit to just four points, trailing, 24-20, but Kenzie Dozier put the set away and gave Tech the 1-0 lead in the match with her first kill.
  • Lexie Johnston led all players with seven kills in the first game, as Tech hit a match-high .324 with 18 kills. 
  • Tech took the first lead of the second set on a block by Johnston and Hunter Eshnaur, but the Savage Storm used a 6-0 run followed by a 4-1 run to take their first lead at 14-13.
  • The Suns responded by winning 12 of the final 15 points of the set, winning, 25-18, after a kill by Allie Anderson
  • The Savage Storm took the first lead of the third set and never allowed Tech to establish a lead. The Suns used a 6-2 run late in the third game to cut the deficit to 24-21, but the Storm answered with the final point to win the set, 25-21. 
  • A 6-0 run in the fourth set, that featured three consecutive service aces by Amanda Milnick, allowed the Suns to take control of the match. 
  • The Golden Suns hit .286 in the set, while the Storm was held to just eight kills, as Tech took the set, 25-17.
  • For the match, Arkansas Tech posted a .255 hitting percentage.

NOTABLES

  • Arkansas Tech continues its best start to a season in program history. The Golden Suns' current 20-match win streak is the longest since Tech reached 26 consecutive wins in 2000.
  • Tech dropped the third set for just the first time this season. The Suns have won all six other GAC matches in straight sets. 
  • Tabitha Spray led Arkansas Tech with 15 kills, followed by Johnston's 14 kills. Milnick posted eight kills with no attack errors, leading all players with a .667 attack percentage. She also tallied a season-high 47 assists. 
  • Madison Nagel anchored the defense with 20 digs, and Eshnaur had 11.
