ARKANSAS TECH SETS PROGRAM RECORD WITH 27TH STRAIGHT WIN

CONWAY, Ark. - No. 12 Arkansas Tech set a volleyball program record on Tuesday, as the Golden Suns defeated Central Baptist in straight sets for their 27th consecutive win.

  • Arkansas Tech (27-0, 11-0 GAC) returns to Great American Conference play on Thursday, as the Suns host Henderson State at 6 p.m. in Tucker Coliseum.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trailing 6-5 early in the first set, the Golden Suns used a 6-0 run to take advantage. Tech held its lead for the rest of the game, winning the first set, 25-16. 
  • Arkansas Tech scored the first 17 points in the second set and later ended the set on a 4-0 run to win, 25-6. The Suns committed just one attack error in the set, hitting .435 as a team while forcing CBC to hit -.056.
  • In the final set, Tech opened with seven consecutive points, and the Suns later followed with another 7-0 run to take a 16-3 lead. The Golden Suns tallied a match-high 16 kills in the set and limited the Lady Mustangs to just one kill with six attack errors, winning the match after a 25-7 win in the final game.
  • For the match, Arkansas Tech hit .345 as a team, while Central Baptist recorded 16 kills and 16 errors for a .000 attack percentage. 

NOTABLES

  • The current 27-match win streak passes 2000's 26-match streak for the longest in Arkansas Tech volleyball history. 
  • Arkansas Tech also continues its best start to a season in program history, as the Suns are one of just three undefeated teams remaining in Division II.
  • Tech recorded a season-high 12 service aces in the win, led by Marisa Drevenak who tallied six.
  • Ellie Perkins led all players with eight kills in the match, and she also added a match-high five total blocks. Kenzie Dozier and Mackenzie Eford each finished with seven kills, as Eford led all players with a .583 hitting percentage.
  • Emily Acker led Tech's offense with 32 assists, and Madison Nagel led the defense with 15 digs.

  • "Tonight was a fun match. We were able to try some different line ups and some of our players were able to get valuable game experience."
