PLANO, Texas – The Arkansas Tech tennis team had a very successful opening day as the Golden Suns had four individuals advance to the semifinals and three doubles pairs advance to the quarterfinals on the opening day of the Collin Community College Open Friday in Plano, Texas.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Kami Ward won a pair of hard-fought matches to advance to the Flight 2 singles semifinals.
• In the Flight 3 singles bracket, Katie Harris defeated Imani Doyle 6-1, 6-3 and Emily Young 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 on her way to advancing to the semifinals.
• A pair of Golden Sun players advanced in Flight 4 singles, as both Haeleigh Long and Alejandra Sanchez picked up a pair of victories to advance to the semifinal round.
• Three Suns doubles pairings advanced to the quarterfinals. Long/Teresa Sanchez and Annabel Rowlands/Ward made it through the first round of the Flight 1 doubles bracket, while Harris/A. Sanchez advanced in the flight 2 doubles.
