THIRD QUARTER PUSHES GOLDEN SUNS PAST REDDIES

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – A 13-1 run late in the third quarter propelled the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns to a 68-62 victory over the Henderson State Reddies on Thursday. Tech outscored Henderson, 27-16, in the third period after trailing, 31-28, at halftime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Henderson State (7-9, 7-3 GAC) held the only lead of the first quarter, and the Reddies ended the period with a 6-0 run to take an eight-point lead.
  • Arkansas Tech quickly took its first lead of the game in the second quarter, as Cheyenne North sparked a 7-0 run with a layup on Tech's first possession. Anissa Pounds followed with five straight points, including a free-throw that put the Golden Suns ahead, 22-21.
  • Eight of Tech's 13 points in the second quarter came in the paint, while the Reddies were held scoreless inside. Henderson State netted just 3-17 field goals, as Arkansas Tech cut the deficit to just three points at the break.
  • The third quarter featured five lead changes, but a three by Pounds started the dominant run by Arkansas Tech. The Golden Suns were 6-9 on field goals in the final five minutes of the period and finished with twice as many made field goals as the Reddies.
  • With 6:26 to play in the final quarter, North gave the Golden Suns their largest lead of nine points. Henderson responded immediately, however, with nine consecutive points to tie the score, 59-59.
  • Calli White eventually claimed the lead back for Tech with her second three-pointer of the contest, and the Golden Suns held the Reddies to just 1-6 on field goals in the final four minutes to claim the victory.
 
NOTABLES
  • North finished with a game-high 15 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. She also led all players with four assists and three blocked shots.
  • Pounds, Danielle Frachiseur and Kelsey McClure added 14 points each. Frachiseur grabbed nine boards, six on the offensive end, and Pounds and McClure combined for 11 rebounds and six assists.
  • Tech outscored Henderson, 38-18, in the paint, and the Golden Suns' 15 offensive rebounds turned into 14 second-chance points.
