AXTELL, Neb. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns golf team shot up the leader board Wednesday afternoon, shooting a final round 294 to finish in a tie for third with Missouri Western at the Central Region Championships at the Awarii Dunes Golf Course in Axtell, Nebraska.
 
Starting the day 13 strokes back of Northeastern State and Missouri Western in second place, the Golden Suns put together the second-lowest team round score of the entire tournament leap from sixth place to third place. The Missouri Western shot 19-over-par on the day to finish deadlocked with Tech in third place.
 
The Golden Suns went to three playoff holes with the Griffons to determine which team would advance to the national championships, but fell on the third playoff hole to Missouri Western.
 
Despite the Golden Suns not making it back to a third-straight national championship tournament, Caroline Fredensborg will represent Arkansas Tech as an individual. Fredensborg shot a final round 72 to finish in a tie for third with a two-over par, just missing first place by one stroke.
