WONDER BOYS WIN WITH EXTRA INNING HEROICS IN HOME OPENER

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Junior left fielder Parker O'Dell didn't start the home opener for the Wonder Boys, but he ended a marathon 12 inning game on a walk-off single with the bases loaded to give Arkansas Tech the 8-7 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader at Tech Field on Saturday. Arkansas Tech (2-3) didn't fare so well in the second game of the doubleheader as Missouri Western (1-1) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to pull out a 10-5 victory over the Wonder Boys.

The Wonder Boys and Griffons will meet again on Sunday for the rubber match with a 12 p.m. first pitch at Tech Field.

  • After coming in as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning, O'Dell had two of the biggest plate appearances of the game for Tech. O'Dell hit a sacrifice fly to center field in his first at-bat to cut the MWSU lead to 7-6 and then came up with the game-winning walk-off single that rolled just out of the reach of MWSU shortstop Fisher in the 12th to give the Wonder Boys the victory.
  • Watkins continues to swing a hot bat for the Wonder Boys, going 5-for-6 with a double, triple, an RBI and a run scored. Watkins is 8-for-11 in the last two games.
  • Brandon Bohuslav pitched two strong innings of relief, striking out four of the six batters he faced. Nate Rutherford picked up the win by pitching a scoreless 12th.
