MONTICELLO, Ark. – Tyler Corley scored a game-high 18 points while
Andrew Guillory added 17, leading a cast of five Arkansas Tech players to reach double figures as the Wonder Boys basketball team (15-11, 10-10 Great American Conference) picked up a 76-69 win over UAM (7-19, 5-15 GAC) on Saturday at Steelman Fieldhouse.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The game was a seesaw affair for the opening four minutes, as UAM took a four-point lead (8-4) with 16:27 to play before Tech came back and reclaimed the lead 9-8 just over a minute later.
- Tech pulled ahead by double digits (28-18) with 6:42 to play in the opening half before taking a six-point (40-34) lead into the half.
- Tech once again stretched its lead to 10 (46-36) and was answered by a UAM 3-pointer to cut the advantage to seven, before the Wonder Boys went on a 7-0 run to pull ahead by 14 (53-39) with 15:55 to play.
- UAM cut it back to 10 (53-43) at the 14:18 mark before Tech used an 11-0 run to claim a 21-point (64-43) advantage with 11:38 to play.
- The Wonder Boys took their biggest lead of the day (23 points) at the 10:18 mark when DeChriston McKinney hit a layup to put Tech ahead 66-43.
- The Boll Weevils began to chip away at the Tech lead and were able to pull to within single digits with 11 seconds to play.
NOTABLES- Mason Cline (12 points), Freddy Lee (11 points), and DeChriston McKinney (10 points) also reached double figures in the win.
- McKinney also turned in 11 rebounds to lead Tech.
- The Wonder Boys outshot UAM 44.6 to 44.1 percent from the floor, and held a 38-37 rebounding advantage.
- Tech outscored UAM 16-11 off turnovers, 32-30 in the paint, and 29-11 from the bench. UAM held an 11-6 advantage on second-chance points.
- Tech committed just nine turnovers to UAM's 10.
NEXT UP- The Wonder Boys return to Tucker Coliseum for the final two games of the regular season, hosting Southeastern Oklahoma at 7:30 on Thursday, Feb. 25 and East Central at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27.
