RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech volleyball will compete in 2016's regular season finale on Thursday, as the Golden Suns travel to Arkadelphia to take on Ouachita. The Great American Conference match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Arkansas Tech (21-10, 11-4 GAC) has won its previous six matches, including a five-set triumph over Harding on Tuesday. With the win, the Golden Suns moved into a four-way tie for first place in the GAC, along with Harding, Ouachita and Oklahoma Baptist.
Ouachita (21-6, 11-4 GAC) is riding a five match win streak, including a five-set win over Southern Arkansas on Tuesday. Ouachita's last loss was against Harding in three sets. In the previous match between Tech and Ouachita this season, the Golden Suns defeated the Tigers, 3-1. The victory gave Tech 18 consecutive wins over Ouachita, dating back to 2007.
The Golden Suns currently rank second in the GAC with a .226 team attack percentage. Tech's defense also ranks second, limiting opponents to hit just .151. The Golden Suns average 13.47 kills per set, best in the conference. Ouachita sits just behind Tech with a .222 team hitting percentage, and the Tigers are also third in the GAC with just over two blocks per set.
With Tech's 20
th win of the season last Thursday over Southern Arkansas, the Golden Suns have reached at least 20 wins in each of the past 12 seasons, dating back to 2005. The Golden Suns will compete in postseason play for the 11
th consecutive season, dating back to 2006.
Arkansas Tech and Ouachita have both clinched a spot in the GAC Championships, beginning on Thursday, Nov. 17. Both the Golden Suns and the Tigers also have the opportunity for the top seed heading into the tournament, depending on Thursday night's GAC contests.
