RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Wonder Boys basketball claimed their second Great American Conference win of the season on Saturday, defeating Northwestern Oklahoma State, 85-69.
Branden Williams led Arkansas Tech with 19 points, followed by Bennie Lufile with 16.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Arkansas Tech (2-0, 2-0 GAC) took the first lead of the contest on a layup by Lufile 16 seconds into the first half.
- Northwestern (1-3, 0-2 GAC) claimed its first and only lead on a free-throw with 16:53 until halftime, but the Rangers only held the lead for just over two minutes. The Wonder Boys took the lead back on a three-pointer by Williams, part of a 15-3 run that put Tech ahead, 17-8.
- Tech reached its first double-digit lead on a Trevon Woods jumper with 9:02 to play in the half, and the Wonder Boys later took their largest lead of the half at 14 on a three by Freddy Lee.
- The Wonder Boys held a lead of at least 10 for the entire 20-minute second half, claiming its largest lead of the contest at 26 points with 3:35 to play.
NOTABLES
- The Wonder Boys committed just nine turnovers in the win, while forcing 19 by the Rangers. Tech turned the 19 turnovers into 24 points.
- Tech finished with a shooting percentage of 44.3 percent. Northwestern shot just 39.3 percent.
- Williams and Lufile combined for 35 points on 14-16 shooting from the floor. Williams also grabbed a team-high eight boards.
- Grant Prusator provided a spark from behind the arc, knocking down three triples to tally nine points. Lee and Trevin Woods added nine points, as well, with Lee recording a game-high five steals.
