WONDER BOYS FALL TO OUACHITA 94-80

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team dropped their second consecutive road game as they lost a tough game against a red-hot shooting Ouachita Baptist 94-80 Thursday night at Bill Vinning Arena in Arkadelphia.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wonder Boys (9-4, 4-3 Great American Conference) jumped out to an early lead over Tigers (5-8, 5-2 GAC) as Corley scored seven of the Wonder Boys' 11 points as they held an 11-9 lead with 12:26 to go in the first half.
  • OBU ran away from Tech over the next 11 minutes as the Tigers used a 36-16 run to jump out to a 45-27 lead with 1:39 to go in the first half.
  • After trailing by as many as 19 in the first half, Corley got fouled with a second remaining to cut the deficit to 50-33 going into halftime.
  • The physicality of the game led to some early second half frustrations by both teams. With 15:30 to go, Tyrone Haughton and OBU's Tirrell Brown tangled up and were charged with a double technical. Haughton was ejected for a double flagrant foul. Two minutes later, OBU's Justin McCleary was also charged a technical for taunting.
  • OBU picked up as much as a 21 point lead early in the second half, but a pair of Freddy Lee three-pointers cut the deficit down to 13 at 65-52 with 12:30 to go in the half.
  • Despite making a comeback, OBU put the game away with a 17-9 run to grab an 82-61 lead with 8:07 left to play.
  • Tech would only cut the deficit to as little as 14 for the remainder of the game as Ouachita held on to a 94-80 victory.
NOTABLES
  • Corley made a big impact in his first start since a November 19 loss to Southwest Oklahoma. Corley led the Wonder Boys with 23 points on 7-of-17 shooting and converted on 8-of-11 free throws.
  • Four Wonder Boys scored in double-figures with Marquis Yates scoring 20 points off the bench on 7-of-12 shooting and going 3-for-5 from behind the arc. Andrew Guillory added 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Lee scored 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting with two of his field goals coming from behind the three-point arc.
  • As a team, the Wonder Boys were effective on the offensive end, shooting 25-of-52 (48-percent) from the floor and 9-of-17 (53-percent) from three. However, the defense struggled as the Tigers converted on 34-of-63 (54-percent) field goals and 12-of-19 (63-percent) from behind the arc.
