BOLIVAR, Mo. —
Vandella Suico and
Laura Sanchez picked up an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles over the Southwest Baptist duo of Beatrix Federer and Zorana Jovanovic, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns tennis team was unable to overcome the firepower of the No. 18 Southwest Baptist Bearcats, falling 5-1 in the regional final on Monday.
SBU picked up points in doubles play at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, before getting singles wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 singles to clinch the decisive fifth point and seal the win.
The loss ends the season for the Golden Suns that saw Arkansas Tech win its third regular-season tennis title, as the Golden Suns tied with East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma for the regular-season crown. For the second consecutive season, the Golden Suns won a match in the NCAA tournament , and in doing so set a new program record with the 18
th win of the season.
Arkansas Tech finishes the 2015 season at 18-5 overall.
