SUNS DROP PAIR TO HENDERSON STATE

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns softball team was unable to overcome timely hitting from Henderson State, as the Suns dropped the final two games of the teams' four-game series on Monday, falling 5-2 in the opener and 2-1 in the nightcap.

HSU plated runs in the first and second innings in the opener to claim an early 2-0 lead. The Golden Suns were able to knot the game in the fourth, as Shanna Davidson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Whitney Robinson later drew a bases-loaded walk to make the score 2-2.

Henderson reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch, and scored runs on an RBI grounder and a passed ball to push ahead 5-2.

Morgan Vaughan suffered the loss, falling to 9-4 on the season after allowing five runs, all earned, on nine hits in six innings of work. The freshman walked and fanned three.
Victoria Huie kept the Reddies off balance in the nightcap, surrendering just a two-run homer in the third inning that gave Henderson a 2-0 lead. The Golden Suns, however, were unable to capitalize on their seven hits, scoring their lone run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Miranda Dupree.

Alex Edinger had two hits in the finale.

The Golden Suns return to action Wednesday, traveling to No. 11 Alabama-Huntsville for a noon doubleheader.
