RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. –
Vandella Suico and
Laura Sanchez were 8-4 winners at the No. 3 doubles position, while Suico,
Bohdana Sardak, and
Olga Leyshyna were straight-set winners in singles play, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns tennis team (12-3) could not overcome a 2-1 deficit after doubles play, dropping a 5-4 decision to Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday.
Suico and Sanchez picked up their win over the Savage Storm duo of Milena Vitez and Ilga Racika-Racko to notch Tech's lone point in doubles play. Sardak and Leyshyna fell 9-7 to Alexsandra Reljic and Maria Martinez at No. 1 doubles, while
Tamara Bell and
Camila Roca fell 8-6 at No. 2 doubles to Darija Catipovic and Conchi Assiego.
In singles play, Bell fell 6-3, 6-4 to Reljic at the top singles position, but Tech scored a pair of points at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions as Sardak downed Racko 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot and Leyshyna picked up a 7-6 (5); 6-1 decision at the No. 3 spot over Catpovic.
Suico captured the other point with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Vitez at No. 6 singles, but wins by Assiego over
Camila Roca (6-4, 6-4) at No. 5 singles and Martinez over Sanchez (6-1, 6-1) at No. 4 singles provided the margin that the Savage Storm needed to seal the win.
The Golden Suns return to action on Thursday, April 9, traveling to Arkadelphia to play Henderson State. A 3 p.m. match is scheduled.
