GOLDEN SUNS HEAD TO HENDERSON, SUNDAY START MOVED UP

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — On a five-game winning streak that has them right back in the thick of the race for the Great American Conference title, the Arkansas Tech softball team hits the road for the biggest conference softball series of the season, facing first-place Henderson State in a four-game series slated for Sunday and Monday.

Due to the forecast of inclement weather, Sunday's games have been moved to a 10 a.m. start while Monday's games will begin at 2 p.m.

The Golden Suns (33-12, 19-9 GAC) currently sit three games behind the Reddies (31-9, 21-5 GAC) as the series kicks off a bit later due to the forecast of rain across the region. Tech put together its streak thanks to a four-game sweep of Ouachita Baptist last weekend — the fourth time in eight tries this season the Suns have swept the season series from a conference opponent — while Henderson has won eight of its past nine games.

The Tech pitching staff was the star of last week's 5-0 run, allowing just seven earned runs and 10 overall while picking up a pair of shutouts. As a team, the Suns have lowered their ERA to 2.92, which puts them just behind Henderson's 2.73 for the top number in the GAC. Morgan Vaughan posts a 2.62 mark, the second-best in the league, with an 8-3 record, while Sydnee Clark is fourth with a 2.66 ERA and second with a .200 batting average against. Victoria Huie gives the Suns a third pitcher in the top 10, as she's seventh with a 2.91 mark and an 11-4 record.

Offense hasn't been a problem for Tech either, scoring at least five runs in each game over the streak and 34 total for the span. As a team, they fall in at fourth in the league with a .322 batting average, but get the most out of their time at the plate, pounding out 66 home runs and slugging .536 to lead the GAC.

All together, the Suns boast eight players batting better than .300 and seven with five or more home runs. Whitney Robinson, who's on a 15 game hitting streak is leading the team with a .409 average, adding nine home runs and 34 RBIs with a .479 on-base percentage. Kambri Hill leads the team with 11 home runs, batting .378 with 31 RBIs and slugging .714 while stealing 12-of-13 bases. Shanna Davidson adds a .364 average, nine homers and 31 RBIs, while Jalissa Gum bats .327 with five home runs and seven doubles. Ashley Savage shares the team lead with 34 RBIs, adding 10 home runs to her .318 average.

The Reddies lead the GAC in both pitching, with a 2.73 ERA, and hitting, clubbing .347 as a team, while they're just nine runs scored behind the Suns with five fewer games. Sarah Gipson is batting .450 with seven home runs, 12 doubles and a league-high 51 RBIs to pace the squad, while Keirsten Seahorn adds a .409 average, seven homers and 44 batted in. Ashlyn White hits .385 with eight home runs and 39 RBIs, with Amy Halter adding a .336 average, 40 runs scored and 22 steals on the season.

Michelle Sorensen starts off the Henderson pitching staff, leading the GAC with a 2.71 ERA while compiling a 15-7 record with three shutouts and 106 strikeouts over 133 innings. White is the team's second starter, tossing 88 innings to get to an 8-2 record with a 3.78 ERA.
