Bohdana Sardak and
Olga Leyshyna won a hard-fought 8-5 decision over Julia Municoy and Elisabeth Dignard at No. 1 doubles,
Tamara Bell and
Camila Roca were 8-2 winners over Virginie Rodriguez and Gloria Mayorga at No. 2 doubles, while
Laura Sanchez and
Vandella Suico picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Srijita Ghosh and Bernardita Muscillo, leading the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns tennis team to a 7-2 win over East Central on Thursday.
The win keeps the Golden Suns (16-3, 4-1 Great American Conference) alive in the race for a share of the GAC regular-season crown. Southeastern Oklahoma (5-1 in league play) has claimed a share of the title. The Golden Suns and ECU (11-11, 4-1 GAC) can both claim a share of the regular-season crown with wins this weekend, as both teams are slated to face Harding.
Taking a 3-0 lead into singles play, the Golden Suns picked up the decisive points with a pair of straight-set singles wins, as Roca downed Ghosh 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Suico topped Veronica Mijares 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Bell fell 4-6, 7-5, 12-10 to Municoy at No. 1 singles and Sanchez dropped a 7-6 (4), 6-3 decision at No. 4 singles, but Sardak won a tough 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 matchup at No. 2 singles and Leyshyna took a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
The Golden Suns will return to action on Saturday, April 18, hosting Southwest Baptist at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
