RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team earned its fifth straight sweep of the spring season, using a fast start from its doubles pairs to pick up a 9-0 victory over Maryville Friday afternoon at Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
The Golden Suns (5-1) saw doubles teams of
Bohdana Sardak and
Olga Leyshyna,
Tamara Bell and
Camila Roca, and
Laura Sanchez and
Vandella Suico turn away their Maryville opponents by scores of 8-4, 8-1 and 8-4, respectively.
The Suns carried that momentum over to singles against the Saints (2-4). Bell grabbed a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, and Leyshyna (6-1, 6-1 at No. 3) and Roca (6-3, 6-2 at No. 5) also earned straight-set victories. At No. 2, Sardak bounced back from the first set to snag a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win. Sanchez did the same in a 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4, as did Suico, who stayed unbeaten in singles play on the year with a 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 victory at No. 6.
Tech is back in action at 10 a.m. Saturday, as it stays at home to take on Henderson State.
