RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Looking to keep its unblemished mark in Great American Conference play going, the Arkansas Tech softball team heads to Durant, Oklahoma this Saturday and Sunday to take on Southeastern Oklahoma in a four-game series.
The No. 12 Golden Suns (8-2, 2-0 GAC) had their league-opening series against East Central cut short due to weather last weekend, having to take an abbreviated 2-0 series sweep over the Tigers to move to 8-0 on the season. The Savage Storm (8-7, 4-0 GAC) got off to a tough 4-7 start after a pair of early-season invitationals, but rebounded to earn a four-game sweep of Ouachita Baptist to get started in conference play before last weekend's series against Harding was scrapped due to weather.
Tech continues to smash the ball on offense, with six regulars batting .300 or better, and the team hitting .363 overall.
Shanna Davidson leads the pack with a .522 average to go along with an even 1.000 slugging percentage, three home runs and nine RBIs.
Kambri Hill isn't far behind with a .519 average, four homers and 10 RBIs.
Courtney Colunga's 16 RBIs leads the team, and she has a pair of doubles and a .457 average to go with it. Pitcher
Victoria Huie, fresh off a GAC Pitcher of the Week award, is 4-0 with a pristine 0.61 ERA over 23 innings of work, and
Morgan Vaughan and
Sydnee Clark are a combined 4-2 over six starts.
Jessica Simmons boasts a .485 average for the Storm in addition to four stolen bases, while Courtney Riddle is batting .444 with three home runs, five doubles and 17 RBIs. Southeastern posts a .340 team average, with eight players batting .300 or better. They lean heavily on pitcher Jacee Bennett, who has already tossed 49 1/3 innings, posting a 6-3 record with a 3.26 ERA and 43 strikeouts to 15 walks. Jessica Seay brings a 2.84 ERA over 24 2/3 innings.
