Kambri Hill went two-for-two with four RBIs in game one, slugging a pair of home runs in a 5-0 win, while
Miranda Dupree went two-for-three with two RBIs in game two as Arkansas Tech (21-7) defeated Northeastern State (12-16), 5-1.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Golden Suns got on the board first on an RBI single by
Alicia Lowrey in the bottom of the second, giving the Golden Suns a 1-0 lead.
The Suns scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth with as Hill smashed a two-run homer to extend the lead to 3-0, and added two more in the sixth on the second two-run shot of the game by Hill, making the game a 5-0 contest.
Sophomore
Sydnee Clark went the distance, allowing just three hits, striking out five and keeping the Riverhawks off the board.
In the nightcap, the Suns started their rally off again in the bottom of the second after Savage got on by a throwing error, and was scored by a
Miranda Dupree single through the left side.
The Suns chalked up three more in the bottom of the third, as
Alexa Wimberly blasted a two run home run to left field, making the score 3-0. Hill followed with a triple to left field and stole home to put the Suns up 4-0.
The Riverhawks tallied one in the top of the fifth but Tech responded by scoring one run in the bottom off of an RBI grounder by Dupree to make the score 5-1.
Kelsie Barker pitched all seven allowing just one run off of six hits, striking out one, and walked only three hitters.
"Sydnee [Clark] and Kelsie [Barker] threw really well today," said the Golden Suns head coach
Kristina McSweeney. "To allow just one run is pretty incredible from our pitching staff. Offensively we got back in a groove. Harding kind of threw us off but we are back."
The Golden Suns return to action this weekend hosting Southwestern Oklahoma with Friday's games beginning at 4 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader slated for noon.
