SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — After dropping the first set 7-5 and dropping the first five games of the second set,
Camila Roca rallied to win seven consecutive games to take a win in the second set before winning the decisive set 6-4, providing the decisive point for the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns tennis team in a 5-4 win over Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.
Roca's win at the No. 5 singles position over NWMSU's Stephanie Mannix was one of three singles points for the Golden Suns, as
Bohdana Sardak was a 7-5, 6-3 straight-set winner over Lorena Rivas Jarolim at No. 2 singles and
Olga Leyshyna won a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 decision at No. 3 singles.
Tamara Bell fell 6-3, 6-2 to Camila Quesada at the No. 1 singles spot,
Laura Sanchez dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4 singles to Aniek Kolen, and
Vandella Suico dropped a hard-fought 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3 decision to Marianne Hull at the No. 6 spot.
The Golden Suns opened the match with a pair of wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles positions, as Leyshyna and Sardak were 8-6 winners over Quesada and Margaux Jaquet, while Bell and Roca downed Rivas Jarolim and Rachel Dibbins 8-3 at the No. 2 slot.
Arkansas Tech returns to action on Thursday, March 19 at Ouachita Baptist.
