GOLDEN SUNS CLINCH SHARE OF CONFERENCE TITLE WITH WIN OVER UAM

MONTICELLO, Ark.Fatima Adams turned in an 18-point, eight-rebound effort, Anna Lea Little scored 11 points with 17 boards, Anissa Pounds had a 14-point, seven-assist effort while Katrina Hayden added 17 points and five assists as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (21-5, 16-4 Great American Conference) clinched a share of the Great American Conference regular-season championship with a 77-60 win over Arkansas-Monticello (13-12, 11-9 GAC) on Saturday at Steelman Fieldhouse.

Arkansas Tech awaits the result of tonight's Harding/Ouachita Baptist contest in Searcy. If Ouachita wins, the Golden Suns will have an outright conference crown and the top seed in the upcoming Great American Conference championship. If the Lady Bisons win, Harding will share the conference title with the Golden Suns, and Harding will claim the top overall seed at the conference tournament by virtue of the Lady Bisons' holding the tiebreaker over the Golden Suns.

Tech led for all but 44 seconds of the contest, and the Golden Suns pushed their lead into the double digits by the 7:11 mark, when Little buried a 3-pointer to push the Tech lead to 30-20. The Suns led by as many as 11 (33-22) with 5:49 to play in the half after a 3-point play was converted by Adams, but Tech did not score again in the half after that basket.

UAM scored the final six points of the half to narrow the halftime score to 33-28.

Tech quickly opened the game back into the double digits (38-28) after a layup by Adams at the 18:33 mark, and Tech would stretch its lead to as many as 23 points down the stretch as the Golden Suns cruised to the win.

The Cotton Blossoms outshot the Golden Suns 53.3 to 49.2 percent, but Tech outrebounded UAM 38-21, including a 17-3 advantage on the offensive glass. That helped Tech to a 22-2 advantage in second-chance points.

The Golden Suns will return to action on Thursday, March 5 in an opening-round contest at the Great American Conference championship tournament in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A complete tournament bracket will be released later Saturday at www.greatamericanconference.com.
