GOLDEN SUNS RUN AWAY FROM NORTH ALABAMA TO STAY UNBEATEN

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Fatima Adams poured in 33 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the No. 15 Arkansas Tech women's basketball team turned a tight game into a comfortable victory with a second-half onslaught in an 87-65 win over North Alabama Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Golden Suns (4-0) fell behind early to the Lions (1-4), giving up the first six points of the game and were behind 22-18 after one quarter. The deficit grew to its biggest at 26-18 early in the second quarter.
  • An Anissa Pounds steal led to a fastbreak opportunity that Kelsey McClure finished off to tie things at 28-all with 5:59 left in the second quarter, and the first of two free throws at the 5:14 mark by Adams made for the first and only lead change of the night.
  • Aujana Dawkins netted six points over the final five minutes of the opening half, with the final bucket of that stretch lifting the hosts to a 39-32 lead and capped off a 21-6 run by the Suns.
  • Adams, who seemed unstoppable around the rim in the second half, finished a layup just over two minutes into the third quarter to hand Tech its first double-digit lead of the contest at 47-36.
  • When UNA was able to cut the lead back to five, the Suns responded with a quick 12-point spurt over the next three minutes, with Adams netting six of those points and Dawkins, Danielle Frachiseur and Anna Lea Little each contributing two.
  • The lead would not slip under 10 again until the guests pulled it to 64-55 early in the fourth quarter. Anissa Pounds picked up five points over a 30-second span to make the lead comfortable once again.
  • Back-to-back buckets from Adams pushed the lead back to 18, and the lead hovered there for nearly four minutes until points by Adams, Frachiseur and Dawkins ended the game on a 6-3 run for the Suns.

NOTABLES

  • Tech shot 52.9 percent from the field for the game, including an even 60 percent in the second half. This came while holding UNA to just 36.5 percent from the floor.
  • Adams did her part, going 15-of-19 from the field to shoot 78.9 percent for the game — the highest single-game shooting percentage of her career — on the fifth-most field goal attempts of her career.
  • Dawkins added an 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) night from the field, adding 16 points, six rebounds and two blocks, while Tierani Richardson was 3-of-6, all from 3-point range, for nine points and tied for the game lead with five assists.
  • Pounds also had five assists, adding four steals and six rebounds to her 10-point effort. For the game, the Suns assisted on 21 of their 36 made field goals.
  • Tech won the rebounding game with 43 boards, including 19 offensive, and scored 58 points in the paint against North Alabama's 30.

WHO'S NEXT

  • The Golden Suns continue their stretch against former Gulf South rivals Sunday, hitting the road to face Delta State in a 2 p.m. tipoff.
