RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Looking to clinch an outright Great American Conference title and build momentum heading into the postseason, the Arkansas Tech women's volleyball team will host Ouachita Baptist Thursday for Senior Night festivities at Tucker Coliseum.
The Golden Suns (24-6, 14-1 GAC) can wrap up their second straight outright regular-season championship — and third in five years in the GAC — with a victory over the Tigers (15-10, 8-7 GAC) in the 6 p.m. matchup. Tech already holds a pair of 3-0 victories over OBU this season, extending its winning streak over the in-state rival to 16 consecutive matches.
Leading the conference in hitting percentage (.235), opponent hitting percentage (.170), kills (14.07) and assists (13.03), the Suns provide the most potent offense in the GAC. The Tigers aren't far behind, coming in second in kills (12.82) and hitting percentage (.229), and third in assists (11.93).
Freshman Sarita Stegall provided a pair of double-doubles in Tech's two wins over OBU this season, going for 34 assists and 12 digs during a 25-20, 25-23, 25-18 victory in a nonconference meeting at the Arkansas Tech Tournament, and dishing out 41 assists and 10 digs in a 28-26, 25-19, 25-15 conference win. Senior Katie Huff provided 23 kills, six blocks and five aces over the two matches, with freshman Hunter Eshnaur turning in 22 kills and 17 digs.
For the Tigers, Abby Pickett and Kori Bullard each put up 17 kills over the previous two meetings, while Bullard turned in nine blocks and Stormi Leonard pitched in with 54 assists, five kills, 12 digs and six blocks.
In addition to Huff, seniors Rachel Hampton, Kaci Jackson and Colleen Wooten will be honored before the match, which will be their final at Tucker Coliseum. Live video and statistics will be available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
