GOLDEN SUNS HOST UAM LOOKING TO KEEP STREAK ALIVE

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Wrapping up its first month of play, the Arkansas Tech women's volleyball team will host Arkansas-Monticello Friday evening in its final home match for the next two weeks.

The Golden Suns (10-5, 4-0 GAC) turned in another 3-0 sweep on the road, this time over Henderson State, to remain undefeated in Great American Conference play. The victory extended their regular-season conference winning streak to 13 matches dating back to last season, and the Suns have also won 10 consecutive sets.

In the 5 p.m. meeting at Tucker Coliseum, Tech will try to keep some more streaks going against the Cotton Blossoms (6-5, 1-3 GAC). The Suns are 19-4 all-time against UAM, and have won each of the past 13 matches, including 11 in a row since the formation of the GAC. Tech has also taken six straight at Tucker Coliseum in the series, dating back to the 2009 season.

Tech is leading the GAC in both kills (13.98) and assists (12.98) per set, and is second in blocks per set with 1.89. The Suns are hitting .202 as a team, good enough for fourth in the league, and are allowing opponents to hit just .180, also fourth in the conference. UAM's offense sits lower in the rankings, but the Blossoms are third in digs (17.44), second in opposing hitting percentage (.173) and second with 1.72 aces per set.

The Golden Suns are led on offense by freshman Sarita Stegall, who has brought home two straight GAC Setter of the Week awards and recorded double-doubles in seven of her last eight times on the court. She's fifth in the GAC with 9.19 assists per set, but is leading with 12.21 in league play. Stegall is also fourth on the team with 2.40 digs per set and has added 30 kills and 10 blocks. Fellow freshman Hunter Eshnaur is fifth in the league with 3.67 kills and 4.12 points per set as an outside hitter, is third with 2.44 digs per set and has chipped in with 11 aces.

Middles Katie Huff and McCall Wilkins have each played a large part as well. Huff, a senior, is 10th in the GAC with a .286 hitting percentage, and is hitting .370 in conference matches. She also leads the team and is second in the league with 1.06 blocks per set, and adds 2.69 kills per set and 12 total aces. Wilkins is hitting .236 with 2.08 kills per set and 0.60 blocks, which is 18th in the conference.

Sophomore libero Madison Nagel is third in the league with 5.31 digs per set, and has chipped in with 36 assists. Her team-leading 17 aces breaks down to 0.33 per set, which is eighth in the GAC, and goes up to 0.43 in the four conference matches. Junior Kaylee Konsella is another threat at the net for the Suns, putting up 2.48 kills per set, which is 19th in the league, on .266 hitting, which is 13th in the conference. Senior Kaci Jackson has churned out double-digit digs in three of the past five matches, and is second on the team averaging 2.73 per set.

UAM is led offensively by Carolina Gasparini, who averages 2.61 kills per set. She also leads one of the most deadly serving teams in the league, leading the GAC herself with 0.53 aces per set, and is 16th in the conference with 2.92 digs. Sydni Schulz adds 2.24 kills, 0.26 aces and leads the team and is eighth in the conference with 4.00 digs per set. Alissya Theis puts up 6.35 assists and Diana Etienne 4.64.

The match wraps up the first third of the GAC schedule for both teams. Three straight weekends of back-to-back matches against Oklahoma squads follow, before the second round of matches against in-state rivals to close out the regular season.
