GOLDEN SUNS FALL TO LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN

Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.Madison Nagel had a 33-dig performance, while Katie Huff had 19 digs and a .552 hitting percentage, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (6-4) were unable to overcome timely hitting and a top-notch blocking performance by Lubbock Christian (6-1), falling 3-1 to the Lady Chaps on Friday at Tucker Coliseum.

After the Golden Suns won the opening set 25-23, Lubbock Christian came back and won the next three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 26-24.

"I thought it was a very competitive match," said Golden Suns head coach Kristy Bayer. "It's great to play teams of a high caliber and I thought defensively we were very good. Our blocking still needs to pick up, especially against a high-powered offense. We still need to see improvements, but at this point our focus is on Northwestern Oklahoma and moving forward into GAC play."

LCU outhit Tech .193 to .088, but their biggest advantage was on the blocking front. Lubbock Christian had 13 team blocks to Tech's six, with Amy Edwards leading the way for the Lady Chaps with a ten-block (three solo, seven assisted) performance.

Huff's 19 kills led all players, while McCall Wilkins added 10 kills in the effort. Nagel's 33 digs mark a career best, topping her previous high-water mark of 31 digs at Midwestern State.

With five matches of 20-or-more digs, Nagel is just one dig away from moving into a tie for eighth all-time at Arkansas Tech in career 20-dig matches.

"Madison Nagel had an incredible match," said Bayer. "She has really been a dynamic player on the back line for us and she was absolutely a bright spot today."

Emily Todd and Kaci Jackson both added 12 digs to assist on the defensive end, while Sierra Nighswonger turned in a double-double with 47 assists and 10 digs.

The Golden Suns return to action on Saturday, facing Northwestern Oklahoma in a 2 p.m. matchup at Tucker Coliseum.
