BOLIVAR, Mo. – Laura Sanchez picked up a straight-set, 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles over Southwest Baptist's Zorana Jovanovic, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns tennis team were unable to overcome a sweep of the doubles points by Southwest Baptist, dropping a 5-1 decision to the No. 21 Bearcats on Tuesday.
Olga Leyshyna and Bohdana Sardak kept it close at No. 2 doubles, dropping a 9-8 (7-5) decision to the SBU duo of Mehak Singh and Lani Tuemmers, while Fanni Varga and Christina Zentai handed the Tech duo of Nozomi Matsuoka and Tammy Bell an 8-0 setback at No. 1 doubles. Paula Carvajaleno and Andjela Panovski topped the Tech duo of Sanchez and Camila Roca 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
After Sanchez' win at No. 6 singles, Zentai was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Leyshyna at No. 3 singles while Tuemmers downed Bell 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to seal the victory for SBU.
The loss concludes yet another outstanding season for the Golden Suns, who picked up their first NCAA Tournament win in program history.
