BETHANY, Okla.—Jalissa Gum hit the game-winning two-run homer in game one while Chelsea Reeves and Courtney Colunga both went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in game two as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (31-25, 19-21 Great American Conference) softball team concluded their regular season with a series sweep over the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm (19-34, 12-36 GAC) on Saturday in Bethany, Okla., taking the opener 2-1 and game two 7-6.
The Golden Suns have now won seven straight games.
Freshman Sydnee Clark had another impressive outing on the mound for Tech, allowing just one earned run and six hits in 7.0 innings of work. Her outstanding performance was all the Golden Suns needed as Gum belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning to lead Tech to the 2-1 victory.
The Golden Suns collected three hits in the game with one coming from Gum, Colunga, and Ashley Keen. Clark got the win and improved to 16-9 on the season.
Tech got the bats going in game two with 11 hits and seven runs. After Whitney Robinson drew a leadoff walk in the top of the first inning, Reeves hit a two-run homer to left field to make it 2-0 after one inning with Tech on top.
The Golden Suns added three more runs in the third when Reeves hit an RBI single and Colunga homered to drive home two more. However, the Crimson Storm responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on three hits to make it a 5-3 ballgame after three full innings.
Southern Nazarene homered in the fourth inning to cut it to 5-4, but Tech came back with one run in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 7-4. The Golden Suns allowed one run in the sixth and seventh innings but the Crimson Storm could not mount the comeback as the Golden Suns went on to win 7-6.
Victoria Huie earned the win for the Golden Suns as she improved to 11-13 on the season. She gave up 12 hits and six earned runs in 7.0 innings.
Robinson went 1-for-2 with three runs and Siarra Gomez went 2-for-3 in game two.
The Golden Suns will now face the Henderson State Lady Reddies in the first round of the GAC Tournament in Bentonville, Ark. The game is scheduled for a 10 a.m. starting time on Thursday, May 1.
