RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys and Golden Suns basketball teams get back to action Saturday afternoon after a week off, hosting Southern Arkansas in a doubleheader at Tucker Coliseum.
The No. 12/18 Golden Suns (7-0, 2-0 Great American Conference) will look to continue a 17-game winning streak against the Muleriders (4-4, 2-2 GAC) that dates back to the 2005-06 season. Head coach
Dave Wilbers' teams are a perfect 14-0 against their foes from Magnolia.
Tech is led by junior
Fatima Adams, who enters the contest eighth in Division II with 22.4 points per game, and her 10.7 rebounds per game is good enough for 38th in the nation and second in the conference. SAU offers up a balanced lineup, with six players averaging 5.0 points per game or better, led by Rosa Bryant's 10.5 points and 5.3 rebounds. The Muleriders are also one of the top teams in the nation in steals, averaging 13.0 per game.
The women tip off at 1 p.m. in Tucker Coliseum.
The Wonder Boys (4-5, 0-2 GAC) will take on the Muleriders (4-2, 3-1 GAC) looking to snap a two-game skid to open conference play. Tech is looking for its 100th victory in the series with its in-state rival, and has won 14 of the past 15 against SAU.
Tech will be led by on the outside by senior
Mike Balogun, who's putting up 13.2 points per game, and on the outside by junior
Nick Wayman, who's putting up 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing. The Muleriders counter with a trio of scorers who average double digits in Jaron Davis (13.7 ppg), Chauncy Williams (13.5 ppg) and D.J. Frye (10.3).
