TECH ROLLS PAST PAINE

Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.— Anissa Pounds turned in a 20-point performance, while Fatima Adams had a 19-point, 10-rebound effort as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball team (3-0) rolled to an 84-55 win over Paine College (1-1) on Sunday at Tucker Coliseum.

Paine got off to a hot start, opening the game on a 7-0 run over the first three minutes. The Golden Suns did not get on the board until the 16:32 mark, when Pounds hit a pair of free throws. A quick bucket by Brianna Simms pushed the Paine lead to 9-2 at the 16:17 mark, but Pounds responded seconds later with a long 3-pointer to pull the Golden Suns to within 9-5.

The Golden Suns tied the game at 11-11 at the 14:22 mark after a layup by Pounds, and the game would once again be tied at 16-16 with 12:51 to play. However, Caroline Eubanks broke the tie with a pair of free throws at the 11:10 mark to put the Golden Suns ahead, and Tech would not trail again.

Tech outscored Paine 28-13 down the stretch leading by as many as 17 points along the way, settling into the halftime break with a 44-29 lead.

The Golden Suns continued to stretch the lead in the second half, leading by as many as 33 points in the closing minutes of the contest.

Eubanks came off the bench to score 13 points, grabbing five rebounds. Pounds dished out a tea-migh five assists, while Adams also added three steals in the win. Tech held a 45.0 to 32.8 percent advantage in shooting, while outrebounding Paine 48-40.  

Tech held advantages in points off turnovers 27-13, second chance points 20-8, bench points 27-17, and fast-break points 14-2.

The Golden Suns return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25, opening a two-game road swing at North Alabama. Tip-off from Flowers Hall is set for 6 p.m. Tech will play another road contest at Oklahoma Christian on Nov. 29 before returning to Tucker Coliseum on Thursday, Dec. 4 to open Great American Conference play against Ouachita Baptist.
