SEARCY, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (22-5, 11-1 Great American Conference) will return to action this Tuesday in Searcy, Ark. facing their conference rival, Harding (17-6, 9-2 GAC).
"Over the past decade Tech and Harding have had a really good rivalry," said Golden Suns head coach
Kristy Bayer. "We have two of the top teams in the conference and every time we step on the court we know it's going to be intense."
These two programs have advanced to the title match in each of the first three conference tournaments, and on Tuesday, the two teams will square off with the conference championship on the line. The Golden Suns need one win to clinch a share of the regular-season crown, and one win coupled with one Harding loss would clinch the outright title.
"When Tech plays Harding it's going to be an intense match," said Bayer. "Especially when so much is on the line as we get down to the end of the season."
The last match up between these two teams went to a nail biting fifth set, but the Golden Suns clinched the win, ending Harding's 32 match conference win streak. Tech has also won two straight matches against them dating back to the conference championship.
"The regular season conference championship is on the line, and both teams know that, so I expect it to be a very intense quality volleyball match," said Bayer.
First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Searcy, Ark.
