RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. –
Emily Todd had a 20-kill performance with 15 digs and hit .500,
Sierra Nighswonger led the team with 52 assists, had nine digs and hit .500, and
Kaci Jackson had a 21-dig performance with five kills as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (20-5, 11-1 Great American Conference) picked up its twelfth consecutive win, beating Ouachita Baptist (13-8, 5-6 GAC) 3-1 on Tuesday.
"
Emily Todd with 20 kills, hitting .500 and a combination of 15 digs is an unbelievable performance," said head coach Kirsty Bayer. "Offensively our team was pretty high error tonight but luckily our top outside was able to terminate when needed."
The Golden Suns turned in a win in the opening set, winning 25-21 before winning sets three and four by scores of 25-22 and 25-18. Tech hit a match-best .383 in the opening set and outhit OBU .244 to .173.
"We knew there would be a lot of long rallies and our goal was to get a lot of first ball kills off of serve receives, which we really struggled to do tonight. Offensively we are usually good right off the serve receive but we struggled tonight which forced us into long rallies as one of the best defensive teams in the conference.'
Rachel Hampton turned in six kills hitting .600,
Katie Huff had a 14-kill performance while
Madison Nagel dished out 20 digs.
"We have had a lot of matches at home," said Bayer. "We have UAM here for senior night to honor
Sierra Nighswonger and
Emily Todd. We've had a great schedule this year and looking forward to just wrapping up and sealing two more conference wins."
The Golden Suns return to action on Saturday, October 25, facing Bacone and Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a tri-match at Tucker Coliseum. The Golden Suns square off against Bacone at noon, while Bacone faces Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 2 p.m. contest, before Tech closes with Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 4 p.m.
