Joey Baldwin Head Shot (2022-23)

Joey Baldwin

Joey Baldwin enters into his first year as head men's and women's golf coach at Arkansas Tech and was hired in July 2022.

He comes to Tech from his alma mater Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. where he spent the past two years as the head women’s golf coach of the Wildcats. Baldwin, who was tabbed to revitalize the women’s golf program at Wayne State in 2019 after it was suspended in the spring of 2013, was also in process of bringing back the suspended men’s golf program for the 2023-24 athletic year.

In his second year at the helm of the women’s program, Baldwin led the Wildcats to a significant jump in their on-course success as his team finished runner-up at the NSIC Women’s Golf Championship. The year prior, Wayne State placed ninth at the NSIC Championship. Fueling the marked improvement for Wayne State in 2022 was sophomore Abbey Kurmel, who took home individual medalist honors. It was just the second time in program history that a Wildcat golfer won the NSIC Tournament and the first time since 1998.

A 2002 graduate of Wayne State, Baldwin was a two-sport athlete playing on both the baseball and golf teams. In baseball he was a three-year starter at second base/third base/shortstop and was a career .309 hitter and ranks in the top-10 all-time in career assists with 333.

At Wayne State, he earned a degree in criminal justice and worked as a police officer in Kansas City, Missouri from 2003-09 before moving back to Wayne where he became a private golf instructor and business owner.

As a private golf instructor, Baldwin helped teach proper swing techniques, proper fundamentals in the short game and course management skill including proper course strategies and course etiquette.

Baldwin is also working towards his certification as a PGA Professional and completed Level 1 in January 2022. A month later, he began working on Level 2.

In terms of his own golf game, Baldwin’s amateur golf highlights include being an eight-time club champion at the Wayne Country Club which included five straight titles, 2018 Wayne Open champion, two Nebraska Interclub championships, third place in the 2016 Nebraska State Mid-Amateur and seventh place in the 2014 Nebraska State Amateur.
