EDMOND, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team opened their weekend slate of neutral site matches on Friday with a match against (rv) Angelo State. The Golden Suns were competitive throughout the match but fell by a score of 6-1.
The point won for the Golden Suns was secured by
Elis Gergel as she won her No. 2 singles match against Anna Wache, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0.
Lucia Perez also had a split set match at No. 3 singles. She won the first set, 6-4 but dropped the second set 2-6 and lost the tiebreaker.
Both of those singles matches came to competition after the Rambelles had secured the team win as they captured the doubles point and collected singles wins at flights one, four and six.
The Golden Suns will now have a day of rest before their final match of the weekend on Sunday as their Saturday opponent, Newman, canceled the match due to illness and not enough available players.
That final match of the weekend will be against Colorado State-Pueblo. It is slated to start at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 1.
