Upstart fall season places Arkansas Tech athletics third in President’s Trophy standings

ATU also placed fourth in Commisioner's Cup standings

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – After the completion of fall sports regular season and conference championship events for 2025, the Great American Conference has announced the standings for both the President's Trophy and the Commissioner's Cup*. In that announcement, Arkansas Tech stands third in the President's Trophy and fourth in the Commissioner's Cup.

Both of those standings for Tech are the highest for the department through the fall slate of competition since 2021. That year, ATU was third in the President's Trophy and fifth in the Commissioner's Cup.

This year, Tech was elevated to the top-quarter of the 12-team GAC thanks to breakout performances from its fall sports of Women's Cross Country, Volleyball and Football. Overall, ATU earned 29 points across their three fall sports and had a percentage of 80.56%.

In women's cross country, Arkansas Tech secured 12 points by virtue of them capturing their first-ever conference championship back in late October. At the GAC Women's Cross Country Championship, the Golden Suns, under the direction of head coach Gabe Sams, had all five of their scoring runners placing in the top-25 and three in the top-10.

In volleyball, the Golden Suns had a breakout season under first-year head coach Hannah Wuest as they finished tied for fourth-place in the conference standings with an 11-5 record. The 11 conference wins were a six-match improvement over the year prior and the most since the 2021 season. In tying for fourth in the standings, Golden Suns volleyball earned 8.5 points.

In football, the Wonder Boys put together the first winning season since 2017 under first-year head coach Roy Thompson and finished the regular season 7-4. That placed the Wonder Boys in a tie for fourth place, garnering them 8.5 points as well. The Wonder Boys would go on to earn an invite to the Heritage Bowl Powered by Riot and played against (rv) West Texas A&M where they went for the win at the end of the game and came away just short of a postseason victory.

* - The GAC determines the winner of the Commissioner's Cup to the GAC school that totals the most cumulative points in the 14 countable sports of men's and women's cross country, football, volleyball, women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, women's tennis, men's women's track & field, men's and women's golf, softball and baseball while the President's Trophy goes to the program that earns the highest percentage of points based on the sports they sponsor.
