Golden Suns sweep first match of the spring; Wiseman notches first win at alma mater

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – First-year head coach Shaun Wiseman picked up his first dual win at his alma mater as the Arkansas Tech women's tennis team swept Ouachita in a non-conference match on the road, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Suns (1-0) left little doubt and even less drama in the match as they did not drop a single set across all six singles matches, while handling business in doubles play.

In doubles, the new duo pairing of Aastha Dargude and newcomer Sofia Beggiatto at flight two were first to complete their match as they disposed of the Ouachita duo of Austynn Crocker and Clarissa Valenzuela, 6-1. The top-flight match featuring Lea Grinberg and Daniela Baez were not far off from finishing their match by the same score to give the Golden Suns the doubles point in the match.

For good measure, the No. 3 doubles team of Melanie Griffiths and Madalena Amil won their match, 6-3.

In singles action, Dargude swept her No. 3 singles match with Ali May, 6-0, 6-0 to be the first match completed. Grinberg at No. 1 singles was next to win, 6-0, 6-3.

The match was then clinched by Baez at No. 2 singles as she won 6-0, 6-1.

The last three matches on the court following the clinch were somewhat close, but all three ultimately ended in straight-set sweeps. Amil won her No. 4 match 6-4, 6-4, Beggiatto won her match at No. 5, 6-4, 6-0 and Isabella Major secured a win at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-3.

The Golden Suns will now prepare to make their home debut in the spring this coming Wednesday against Harding. The match, like the one against Ouachita, will be a non-conference match and is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
