ADA, Okla. - The Arkansas Tech softball team drops the final game in the series against East Central on the road 2-3. The Golden Suns move to 10-9 overall on the season with a 1-2 record in Great American Conference play.
East Central struck the first blow of the game in the bottom of the second inning with a double to left field that scored the runner at second to take a 1-0 lead over Arkansas Tech. The Golden Suns returned the favor in the top of the fourth inning as
Tymber Riley hit a long bomb out over the centerfield wall to tie the game at one run a piece.
The rest of the game became a battle between pitchers as both sides held each other scoreless through the seventh. Leading the Golden Suns in the circle was
Maddy Prough who pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work holding the Tigers to just four hits and one run across the first seven innings of the game putting the game at a 1-1 tie as they headed into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth inning, Riley once again came up big time with her second homerun of the game this time out to left field to give the Golden Suns a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the frame. The Tigers tied the game at 2-2 as an error by
Kaylyn Aguirre allowed the runner at second to score. East Central followed with the final blow of the game as a triple to center field scored the baserunner at second to walk it off with a 3-2 win over the Golden Suns.
The Golden Suns next outing will be their home opener against Southern Arkansas with game one of the three-game series set for Friday, March 4 with first pitch at 5 p.m. that night. The series will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch set for noon.
