RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team picked up a 6-0 shutout win over East Central on Sunday afternoon out at Baswell Field to open their three-game series with ECU.
In the win, senior right-handed starter
Patrick Miner was dominant going the distance and striking out 13. The victory for Miner pushed his season record to 3-0 and his 13 strikeouts were a single-game high for the Tyler, Texas product. Those 13 Ks were also the most by a Wonder Boy since the 2018 season when Zack Kesterson K'd 11 against Oklahoma Baptist.
Against the Tigers (1-10, 0-4 GAC) Miner had at least one strikeout in all but one inning (his ninth) and struckout multiple batters in four different innings, including striking out the side in the sixth.
Miner's dominance was backed by a Wonder Boys (6-3, 2-2 GAC) offense that pushed across six runs on 12 hits.
The first three runs of the attack scored in the bottom of the second.
Trace Maddux led off the inning with a single up the middle. Following an out,
Shelby Quiggins hammered a RBI double to right field, scoring Maddux. Later in the inning Quiggins would score on a two-out RBI by
Ommar Jackson. Jackson then scored two batters later on an errant throw to third on his stolen base attempt.
The Wonder Boys would go on to tack on single runs in each of the next three innings to account for their six runs.
The run in the third scored a RBI single by
Yadier Medina. In the fourth,
Evan Hafley hit a sacrifice fly to score
Ty Van Meter. In the fifth, Quiggins crushed his third home run of the season with a mammoth solo shot to right-centerfield.
The Wonder Boys and Tigers are set to conclude their series on Monday with a doubleheader starting at Noon.
