LAWRENCE, Kan. - After achieving the programs first ever top finish with Maravillas winning the women's 800 meter at the LSU Purple Tiger, the Arkansas Tech Women's Track & Field team grabs another first place finish in their second meet of the season at the Jayhawk Classic. The Golden Suns also notched two third place finishes across both events the team participated in at the meet to walk away with a clear sign of progression for the program and show their ability to compete at an elite-level against some major NCAA Division I programs.
FULL MEET RESULTS
1 MILE
Taking home the win for the Golden Suns in the 1 mile was freshman
Mary Beth Bailey finishing with a 5:16.36 time. Following Bailey with the first of two third place finishes for Tech was sophomore
Calli Beshore with a time of 5:20.01. With a 5:26.42 mile time Maravillas finished at the fourth overall spot. Rounding out the Golden Suns who competed in the 1 mile race was freshman
Felicity West with a time of 5:29.65 to finish sixth.
3,000 METERS
The second and final event the Golden Suns took part in produced a strong showing as well with sophomore
Ashlynn Mays getting the second third place finish of the day with a 10:36.35 time in the 3,000 meters. Crossing the finish line right after Mays was sophomore
Morganne Browning with a 10:39.48 time and taking the fourth spot overall. Closing out the list of participants in the 3,000 meters for Tech was freshman
Marcie Cudworth who finished seventh overall with a 10:49.81 time.

Brock Hime was excited to see the progress his team is continuing to make. "This meet we were looking for progression from our opener and we saw that across the board. The ladies ran really well, setting them up for our next meet. Fight On!".

The Golden Suns will head to Pittsburg, Kan. to compete in their final meet of the 2022 indoor track & field season at the 7th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic hosted by Pitt State University. The meet will begin on Friday, Feb. 11 and will close out on Saturday, Feb. 12.
