Golden Suns’ season ends in GAC Tournament semifinals

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The No.3-seed Arkansas Tech women's tennis team won their GAC Tournament First Round match against No. 6-seed Ouachita, 4-1, on Friday morning, but had their season come to a close later in the afternoon in the semifinals against No. 2-seed Southeastern Oklahoma, losing 4-0.

In the opening round match, the Golden Suns got off to a 1-0 lead in the match with their top-two doubles pairings making quick work of the Tigers. Aastha Dargude and Megan Bell were the first to win at No. 2 doubles, 6-1. Daniela Baez and Lea Grinberg were not far behind at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-2. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Isabell Major and Addison Masters was left unfinished.

In singles play, the Tigers got their lone point of the match with a win at No. 6 singles. Dargude quickly won her match at No. 2 singles and put the Golden Suns up 2-1 in the match. Baez and Grinberg then followed suit winning their matches in straight sets to clinch the match for the Golden Suns.

A few hours after the win against Ouachita, the Golden Suns returned to the courts to take on No. 2-seed Southeastern Oklahoma.

The Savage Storm would claim the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles.

In singles play, the Savage Storm picked up victories at the bottom three flights in straight sets to clinch the match and end the Golden Suns' season.

Prior to the start of the tournament, the Golden Suns had already secured a double-digit win campaign for the 12th time under head coach Abby Davis.
