INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Golden Suns return to the top as the No. 1 ranked team in the latest NCAA DII Central Region rankings after a stellar performance that outshined nine other central region seeds at the Central Region Preview.
The last no. 1 spot the Golden Suns had seen was in the 2019 rankings, and due to COVID-19, they were denied the opportunity in the 2020 season. The Golden Suns enter the post season with three top-3 finishes on top of their first-place finish at the last tournament.
Jacqueline Klemm, who took individual first at the Preview, earned her sixth career Great American Conference Golfer of the Week and led the Golden Suns to a win. Another hot contender for the team is
Katie Whitfield who holds the teams other two GAC Golfer of the Week awards for the season. Whitfield has led the team twice this season that resulted in two 2nd-place finishes and an individual victory to top it off.
In all contests of the regular season the Golden Suns have remained in the top-10 with only two contests outside of the top-3 seeds.
Head coach
Luke Calcatera says this is the Golden Suns' hard work paying off, "We are very excited to get started with the post-season. The ladies have been working hard since August to be where they are today, and they have earned everything they have accomplished this far. We can't wait to tee it up on Monday!
Next up: the Golden Suns compete at the GAC Championships in Hot Springs on April 19-20.
