DURANT, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team lost their first match in Great American Conference play on Saturday as the Golden Suns were upended by Southeastern Oklahoma by a score of 5-2.
The loss snapped a season-long six-match winning streak for the Golden Suns (10-4, 4-1 GAC).
In the match against the Savage Storm, the Goldens Suns jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match after taking the doubles point.
Megan Bell and
Isabella Major at No. 3 doubles were the first to win. The top-flight pairing of
Michelle Khoo and
Aastha Dargude then won 7-5 to clinch the point.
Lea Grinberg and
Daniela Baez's match was not finished as a result, but they were on their way to a win as they were up 4-1 in the tie-breaker.
In singles play, Dargude raced out to a 6-1 win in the first set and during the second set, her opponent retired due to injury, giving Dargude the victory. Unfortunately, that would be the final point of the match for the Golden Suns as the Savage Storm (11-6, 3-0 GAC) went on to win the next five singles matches.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their regular season finale at Harding on Thursday, April 15. First-serve for the match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
