RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Great American Conference play on Wednesday afternoon as the Golden Suns eased past visiting Ouachita by a score of 6-1.
The Golden Suns (7-3, 2-0 GAC) got off to a quick start in the match claiming the doubles point after convincing 6-2 wins from flight one and two. With the doubles point decided, an epic battle played out in No. 3 doubles. The Golden Sun duo of
Megan Bell and
Isabella Major emerged from the marathon match after winning the tie-breaker 10-8.
Aastha Dargude was the first singles match to complete as she won her flight three match 6-1, 6-1. Major then put the Golden Suns up 3-0 in the match thanks to her 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
The match was soon thereafter clinched at No. 2 singles as
Lea Grinberg emerged victorious 6-4, 6-1.
With the match in hand, Ouachita claimed their lone point of the contest with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
The Golden Suns would close out the match with impressive wins at No. 4 singles with
Daniela Baez winning 6-1, 6-2 and at No. 1 singles with recently-named GAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week,
Michelle Khoo winning 7-6 (4), 6-1.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a non-conference match at home against Drury on Sunday, March 28. First-serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
