MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns picked up a series win over the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms, taking game two in the doubleheader. Arkansas Tech dropped the first game, 9-1 but rebounded with a 8-7 win in game two.
GAME ONE
In the first inning, the Cotton Blossoms got on the board with a homer to left field and the Golden Suns went down in order. Arkansas-Monticello opened things up in the top of the second, scoring four runs and tacking on another in the top of the third, going up 6-0.
Paty Loredo singled through the right-side and
Makenzie Goins singled to left but the Golden Suns were unable to convert in the inning. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth, with Loredo reaching first after getting hit by a pitch and
Destiny Sanders singling up the middle. A line drive to the third baseman ended the inning for the Golden Suns.
The Cotton Blossoms put up three more runs in the top of the fifth to go up 9-0.
Brooke Prewitt opened the bottom of the fifth with a single through the right-side and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Tymber Riley and
Caitlyn Wells knocked back-to-back singles to score Prewitt, putting the Golden Suns on the board. Arkansas-Monticello kept their lead and took game on 9-1 in five innings.
GAME TWO
Paty Loredo took a pitch to the back to open game two before
Caitlyn Wells launched a homer to left field, putting the Golden Suns up 2-0 going into the second inning.
Makenzie Addis opened the bottom of the second with a solo homer to right center.
Makenzie Goins reached on a fielding error and scored on an error after
Morgyn Fulgham reached on a throwing error, to go up 4-0. A single from Wells brought in Fulgham and the Golden Suns went up 5-0 at the end of two innings.
The Cotton Blossoms got on the board in the top of the third after errors from the Golden Suns. Arkansas went down in order in the bottom of the third. Arkansas-Monticello pulled within one, scoring two more runs in the top of the fourth.
Arkansas Tech knocked in two more runs after a
Brooke Prewitt double brough in
Arissa Harrish, pinch running for Wells, and Loredo after wells reached on an error and Loredo walked. The Cotton Blossoms went scoreless in the top of the fifth but the Golden Suns got another solo homer from Addis to left center, putting them up 8-4 going into the sixth.
Arkansas-Monticello did not go away quietly and put up three runs in the next two innings to pull within one again, 8-7. After a single and a homer, the Golden Suns defense forced a ground out and two fly outs to take the second game, 8-7 and the series 2-1.
