GOLDEN SUNS TOP ECU TIGERS

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Kayley Shipman put up 22 points for The Golden Suns while Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse picked up 11 rebounds, leading the team to an 81-78 victory over the ECU Tigers. Arkansas Tech now stands 12-5 overall and 9-4 in Great American Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Suns jumped in with a Shipman 3-pointer at the start of the 1st. ECU answers with a 3-point basket, beginning a marginal but consistent lead for Arkansas Tech in the first quarter (24-19).
  • Arkansas Tech held the lead (26-21) after Jayana Sanders put up a 2-point jumper, until the end of the second when ECU tied tech (26-26) after a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer. The Tigers began to take the quarter after 9-10 free throws, leaving Arkansas Tech trailing by 8 at the half (32-40).
  • ECU struggled to hold their lead for the second half. Ryan Goodsell picked up 4 of her 6 rebounds in the third quarter, while Arkansas Tech outscored ECU by a 5-point margin, closing in the gap (59-62).
  • ECU began to pull away again with a 3-pointer but was answered by a 3-pointer from Sarah Heard (62-67). A pair of free throws from Lycia Peevy and a 3-pointer from Sanders left ECU leading by one (67-68) with 6:19 left to play.
  • Shipman tied up the game (70-70) after a fouled lay-up. With less than 5 minutes to play, ECU puts up a jumper and 3-pointer in what would be their last lead of the game.
  • 1:13 left to play and the Golden Suns trail by 2 (76-78). A 3-pointer from Heard pushes Tech passed the Tigers with :40 to play. Shipman puts up two free throws with :04 seconds on the clock. ECU attempts a failed buzzer-beater 3-pointer, ending the game.

  • Lycia Peevy put up 19 points, while Jayana Sanders and Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse both shot 12, and Sarah Heard with 11 putting six players scoring double digits in the game.
