GOLDEN SUNS WIN 10TH CONSECUTIVE SEASON OPENER

DURANT, Okla. – A game-tying, solo home run by Megan Goodnight and an RBI-single Cara Tolar allowed the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns to take the lead and eventually claim a 2-1 victory over Central Missouri on Friday morning. Arkansas Tech softball has opened the season 1-0 in each of the last 10 seasons.

  • Gum earned a no-decision after five innings, four hits and one earned run. Her 13 strikeouts tie for eighth-most in program history, alongside Vaughn's 13 against Central Missouri and Gum's 13 strikeouts against Upper Iowa, both coming last season.
  • Gum has now tallied 304 strikeouts in her career at Arkansas Tech, 59 shy of Tech's all-time record.
  • Vaughan pitched a perfect seventh inning to pick up her sixth career save, third most all-time in program history.
  • Shaffer filled the gap between Gum and Vaughan to earn her first career win at Arkansas Tech.
  • Tolar led all players with three hits in the contest, including the game-winning run batted in. Goodnight tallied her fifth career homer.
